Sometimes the best locations are the ones you don't plan on using.
This lake location came about because a client requested it, and I have to say, I LOVED it! There is something about stepping outside of my usual locations and trying something new that makes a session feel extra fun and unique.
The lake gave us so much variety without having to travel from one spot to another. We had the beautiful water, natural surroundings, open space, and gorgeous light, all in one place. It created a relaxed setting where the family could simply enjoy being together, and that is always one of my favorite things about family photography.
I love finding locations that give families room to move, play, and interact rather than simply standing in one spot and smiling at the camera. Some of my favorite images from a session are often the ones that happen in between the "official" pictures. A little walking, a little exploring, some splashing, and plenty of opportunities for those genuine smiles and connections.
And let's be honest, sometimes the best family photos happen when everyone stops worrying about having their picture taken!
This session was also a great reminder that you don't have to stick with the traditional family-photo locations. If you have a location that means something to your family, or simply a place you've always thought would make a beautiful backdrop, I'm always open to ideas!
So, if you've been thinking about doing family photos somewhere a little different, let's talk about it. A lake, a favorite outdoor spot, a place your family loves to visit... I'm always up for exploring a new location and seeing what we can create there.
After this session, I can officially say that I'm definitely open to more lake sessions! 🌊
If you've been wanting family photos but haven't found a location that feels like you, maybe it's time to think outside the usual spots. Sometimes a little change of scenery is exactly what your photos need.
And who knows? Your favorite location might become one of my new favorites too. 💙
