There is something incredibly special about watching a family settle into life with a brand-new baby. 🥹
And when there are older siblings involved, those first days can be filled with some of the sweetest moments to witness.
These two were absolutely smitten with their new baby brother. From the curious little glances to the snuggles and excitement of being close to him, it was clear that this little guy already had two very proud siblings watching over him. Moments like these are exactly why I love newborn photography.
Newborn sessions are not about perfectly posed babies or asking everyone to sit still and smile at the camera for an hour. They are about capturing your family during one of the biggest, most beautiful transitions you will ever experience. A new baby changes everything. Suddenly, your family looks a little different, your home feels a little fuller, and everyone is learning their new role.
Those are the moments I want you to remember.
One of the questions I get asked most often is, "How long does a newborn session take?"
My goal is usually about an hour, but I never watch the clock.
Babies do not follow a schedule, and I do not expect them to perform on demand! If your little one needs to eat, be changed, or simply needs some extra cuddles, we pause. If an older sibling needs a break, wants a snack, or has reached their photo-taking limit, that is okay too.
There is no rushing through those moments.
I want your newborn session to feel calm, relaxed, and centered around your family's needs. Sometimes the most beautiful images happen in between the moments you think we are "taking pictures." A big sibling climbing up next to mom, a quiet cuddle with dad, or everyone gathered around the newest member of the family can become the images you treasure most.
When I arrive at your home, I will take a look around and find the best natural light. You do not need a perfectly decorated house or a magazine-worthy nursery. We can use the spaces in your home that have beautiful light and feel comfortable for your family.
I will give you plenty of direction so you never have to wonder what to do, but I also want to leave room for your family to simply be together.
Your baby may sleep through the entire session. They may be wide awake and taking everything in. They may fuss a little and need to be fed halfway through.
All of that is completely normal.
Because the truth is, your baby's personality and those little moments are part of your story too. I do not need everything to be perfect to create beautiful photographs. Sometimes the tiny stretches, wide-eyed looks, sleepy yawns, and moments spent being comforted become some of my favorite images from a session.
My goal is to capture this season just as it is, because before you know it, your tiny newborn will no longer be quite so tiny.
If you are expecting, it is never too early to reach out!
I recommend contacting me during your second or third trimester so we can pencil in your due date. Since babies have their own ideas about when they will make their grand entrance, we reserve a spot around your due date and then officially schedule your session once your little one arrives.
That way, there is one less thing for you to worry about during those first busy days at home.
These newborn days are a beautiful blur. The sleepless nights, tiny fingers, newborn stretches, proud big siblings, and quiet moments spent soaking in your newest family member all pass far too quickly.
These tiny days truly pass in the blink of an eye. And while you may not be able to slow them down, you can hold onto a little piece of them. 💛
